Pregaming at the Local Brewhouse

So the Buccos are facing the Padres tonight and I can't help but be hopeful for a win after this past week of mostly positivity for our Pittsburgh Pirates.  Cutch is slowly but surely coming away from his season long slump... I hope and Jay Hay is on his game.  I stopped at Local Brewhouse to have some pre-game bites and refreshments directly across from the entrance to PNC Park.

I chose the loaded nachos that come with pulled meat, cheese, tomatoes, jalepenos, and a dollop of cool sour cream on top.  The chips are crunchy and have the cheese oozing all over them.  You know the perfect nacho combination of just enough cheese and toppings that don't make the chip soggy? Well thats what this appetizer was all about, perfect balance in each bite.  I chose the Cucumber Melon Splash drink to cool down on this hot sticky night.  The light green drink is beautiful to look at and sweet and refreshing to sip.

Dessert at Ten Penny

Last night I stopped by Ten Penny, on the corner of Tenth and Penn (hence the name), in downtown Pittsburgh.  Their pastry chef, Heidi is widely talented and I was in need for one of her signature desserts.  I ordered the Ten Penny Chocolate Bar that is everything you ever dreamed of in a dessert stuffed into one hardened frozen chocolate bar of goodness.  There is a layer of brownie, a layer of pretzel that crunches, vanilla bean creamy ice cream, and some peanut butter and chocolate to top it all off!  Seriously, you will never find anything like this dessert.  Stamped withe the TP logo and decorated with more decadent ice cream and candied peanuts, the presentation is flawless. It is a chocolate lovers dream and the perfect way to end the weekend, with a beautiful sweetness that we all crave on lazy Sundays.

Chef Heidi offers many more decedent desserts that are unparalleled in flavor, texture, and craft.  I highly recommend stopping in if you're in NEED of the perfect dessert! The menu link describes Heidi's desserts but words cannot truly describe the bliss that will come over you when digging into a Ten Penny dessert by one amazing chef.

Burgher Monday!

Its Burgher Monday in the black and gold city!

I found it only appropriate to keep it Local and indulge at 1515 East Carson Street in the Southside for 5 buck "burghers" and $3 Summer Shandys on this sunny day.
I was in need of a little pick me up this dreaded Monday and went all in for my favorite sandwich on the menu... the Grilled Cheese Burgher.  It is fantastic, filling and a two for one meal!  Two of my favorite things all in one juicy bite with the cheesy goodness strapped on both sides of the tender flavorful 1/2 pounder.  This genius concoction that sat amongst the crunch of bacon, lettuce, onion, and tomato with chips to accompany made my lunch by far the best part of my day!
