Pregaming at the Local Brewhouse

So the Buccos are facing the Padres tonight and I can't help but be hopeful for a win after this past week of mostly positivity for our Pittsburgh Pirates.  Cutch is slowly but surely coming away from his season long slump... I hope and Jay Hay is on his game.  I stopped at Local Brewhouse to have some pre-game bites and refreshments directly across from the entrance to PNC Park.

I chose the loaded nachos that come with pulled meat, cheese, tomatoes, jalepenos, and a dollop of cool sour cream on top.  The chips are crunchy and have the cheese oozing all over them.  You know the perfect nacho combination of just enough cheese and toppings that don't make the chip soggy? Well thats what this appetizer was all about, perfect balance in each bite.  I chose the Cucumber Melon Splash drink to cool down on this hot sticky night.  The light green drink is beautiful to look at and sweet and refreshing to sip.

Dessert at Ten Penny

Last night I stopped by Ten Penny, on the corner of Tenth and Penn (hence the name), in downtown Pittsburgh.  Their pastry chef, Heidi is widely talented and I was in need for one of her signature desserts.  I ordered the Ten Penny Chocolate Bar that is everything you ever dreamed of in a dessert stuffed into one hardened frozen chocolate bar of goodness.  There is a layer of brownie, a layer of pretzel that crunches, vanilla bean creamy ice cream, and some peanut butter and chocolate to top it all off!  Seriously, you will never find anything like this dessert.  Stamped withe the TP logo and decorated with more decadent ice cream and candied peanuts, the presentation is flawless. It is a chocolate lovers dream and the perfect way to end the weekend, with a beautiful sweetness that we all crave on lazy Sundays.

Chef Heidi offers many more decedent desserts that are unparalleled in flavor, texture, and craft.  I highly recommend stopping in if you're in NEED of the perfect dessert! The menu link describes Heidi's desserts but words cannot truly describe the bliss that will come over you when digging into a Ten Penny dessert by one amazing chef.

Burgher Monday!

Its Burgher Monday in the black and gold city!

I found it only appropriate to keep it Local and indulge at 1515 East Carson Street in the Southside for 5 buck "burghers" and $3 Summer Shandys on this sunny day.
I was in need of a little pick me up this dreaded Monday and went all in for my favorite sandwich on the menu... the Grilled Cheese Burgher.  It is fantastic, filling and a two for one meal!  Two of my favorite things all in one juicy bite with the cheesy goodness strapped on both sides of the tender flavorful 1/2 pounder.  This genius concoction that sat amongst the crunch of bacon, lettuce, onion, and tomato with chips to accompany made my lunch by far the best part of my day!

Everything's Better with Coffee, Delanie's Coffee that is....

Delanie's Coffee in the South Side is home to an eclectic collection of art and people.  Locals come to work on their laptops, enjoy the fresh air and sun, and consume great delicious food and coffee! Sitting here on this sunny Thursday I am thankful for the friendly atmosphere and breeze that I get to work in.  The oatmeal apple muffin is my new favorite paired with my usual almond milk caramel iced latte to keep me cool on this 85 degree summer day.  The art posted on every wall is for sale by local Pittsburgh artists who appreciate the funky fun-loving creative minds that visit this little coffee shop on the corner of 18th and East Carson Street.  Delanie’s Coffee is a spot not to miss if you’re in search of a welcoming second home for a day, lunch, breakfast, or snack.

Ja Rule

For the jam packed, sold out performance on Saturday night Ja Rule brought the crowd to life with his hits.  Between Me and You, Always on Time, Mesmerize, Put it on Me were all sung loud and proud by the audience that filled both the bottom and top floors of Diesel Club Lounge.  The rap sensation, who recently released his final solo album, crazed the crowd with his top hits from the early 2000's.
Ja Rule did a fantastic job at bringing in the 10th Anniversary of Diesel where Pittsburghers have been partying the night away for the past decade!

Dzeko and Torres

The Canadian EDM duo ragged on Diesel's stage Friday night! Their heavy big room music and flashing graphics filled every corner of the club during their show! Dzeko and Torres have been gaining great attention from big DJ's across their genre lately, performing at festivals such as The BPM, Ultra, Winter Music Conference, Electric Zoo Festival, Coachella, and Tomorrowland. Making a name for themselves across North America and Europe, Dzeko and Torres have an amazing following now in the EDM world of music. Their popularity in Pittsburgh was evident in the energy of the fans shuffling and bouncing across the dance floor Friday.

Turning tables and pumping up the crowd, the two best friends seemed to thoroughly enjoy themselves in the south side of Pittsburgh during Diesel's 10th Anniversary celebration, getting everyone excited for the following night to come featuring Ja Rule!

DJ Tay James

Last night DJ Tay James, Justin Bieber's tour DJ, kicked off the start to our 10th Anniversary celebration of Diesel with a killer performance!

His variety between the Bieb's mixes and fun new and old creative beats, DJ Tay James was incredible. He made the packed floor of Diesel Club Lounge jump, sing and dance the night away after Justin's concert.  From Where Are You Now to  679 back to Love Yourself and Company no one was Sorry to be there ! The DJ''s transitions were slick and exciting for the crowd that never saw a dull moment.  I would highly recommend the pop sensation's right hand DJ to anyone interested in a high energy, entertaining club night!   Diesel was lit in preparation for our next two mind-blowing performances coming up Friday and Saturday!

Taco Tuesday~ Steel Cactus

It's Tuesday and that means tacos for dinner!

It's important to celebrate the taco's famous day of the week with eating and drinking Mexicana style at low prices!

Stop by any of our Steel Cactus locations for...

$2.50 Tacos, $2.75 Dos Equis,
and $5 House Margs every Tuesday!

You can pick out 3 tacos built your way with a choice of beef, pulled chicken, carnitas, chorizo, tofu, or grilled steak. Pick out a tortilla (corn or flour). Pick out a style, Gringo( lettuce, tomato, and creamy queso fresco), Mexican (fresh picked cilantro, crunchy onion, and queso fresco), or Cactus (Spicy slaw, warm roasted corn, and fresh queso).  Finally pick out a sauce, Mi Casa, Salsa Verde, Mango Habanero,  or Avacado Creme.

All yummy, but my personal favorite is the 3 ground beef tacos done Mexican style with the cilantro to give it a freshness and the onions to give it a spice and crunch. I go for the classic Mi Casa sauce that is tomato and spice all wrap it all up in the flour tortillas that are soft and warm.  Each bite is bursting with flavor and oh so amazing to eat. Served with rice and black beans and, upon request, their fresh made guacamole.  The best part about this Tuesday dinner is that all said and done I'm spending only around $7 for a fantastic filling meal!

I make sure not to forget about my favorite deal...the $5 refreshing delicious house margs to go along with my spiced up meal.
The roof top bars in both Shaydside and Southside are my two favorite places to spend these warm summer nights eating out and drinking fruity drinks!
